Let me first start by saying I love this shot. If I tried this, I’d end up with a subject complaining of cramped legs and my grumbling over not being able to get the shot right. ☺
The focus on this is sharp and the blur in the background is soft enough to keep one’s eye on the foreground without having the background be too distracting. You’ve captured a lot of textures here, which is great - the hair on the subject’s arm, the definition of the fabric in the underwear, even the goosebumps on the skin (a lovely touch). There does appear to be a slight bit of noise in the darker areas of the photo, particularly between the hand and right leg (unless I happen to just be staring too hard). I wonder though if a change in the depth of field (more of a blur) in the background would make the subject stand out more.
You’ve got a great angle here, and the natural lighting (coming from a window, maybe) really helps to bring out the pinks in the clothing and skin. It’s a great mixture of light and shadow, the way that works. The socks look like they act as a reflector on the rest of the subject, which is cool. Not to mention that the hand’s position and the delicate way it appears to be held lends a soft sensuality to the piece. I love the extended pinky finger there.
Another great point is the black outlines on the underwear itself. Since it’s a stark contrast to the pink, it feels like it brings everything out more. Nice usage of lines there. The lines on the bed are also eye-catching as well.
While I love how the feet act as a frame for the shot (and it’s cute that the girl’s feet make an appearance in the shot), the exposed light from the top left side acts as something of a distraction (and that’s just me, mind you). My eyes are drawn to that foot with the available light there. Maybe a slight crop would leave the image’s available light to only focus on the main subject and add a bit of symmetry to the overall shot. Or maybe even pulling back somewhat so that both the feet and hand are visible.
Overall, it’s a wonderful piece, one to take a lot of pride in.
This a shot that I keep coming back to. There is a lot being said. I'm torn on whether or not that light in the upper left is distracting or not, I can't say I noticed it before I read the first critique. I think the framing is what grabs me most about this. So much leg and just the slightest hint of torso to let the viewer imagine the rest of her.
Her hand bothers me a little. Is it a creeper? Did she want to highlight the fabric reinforcement? I'd like to see what it would like with her hand laying on her left cheek, maybe just the finger tips visible.
The conceptualism in the shot is amazing. Is this a wife? Or is she a girlfriend or mistress? Maybe even a hooker, she did color coordinate her panties and her socks, I'd imagine the bra that's on the floor or hanging over the back of a chair matches wonderfully as well. I say hooker not as an insult, and certainly the lighting being so wonderfully warm and soft screams intimacy over lust, but the background looks to me like something you would find in a hotel. So it could be two lovers on a wonderful vacation, or maybe some guy taking a last look at what his money bought him before it walks out the door.
Whatever story you take away from this shot, it is amazing.
